  • Day 14 – Another Trip to the tip

    Weight = 107.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12319

    This morning I woke up at 5am and then went back to bed until about 7am. I then got up, went to the kitchen and made my salt water and then went to the bathroom and did my weigh in and was happy to see that I was down from 107.5 kgs yesterday to 197.3 kgs today πŸ™‚

    I then went back to bed and messed around on the chrome book and updated my Training log and wrote my weekly update post and then watched a film until 8:15 when I woke my son up and I had a shower and got dressed and we headed to the tip to get rid of all the old carpet, underlay and other carpet related bits and I also binned some old helmets and old sports supports as well.

    When we got back from the tip we went for a walk on the shot 2 tunnels loop as I was on less than 1000 steps for the day πŸ™ By the time we got back I was on 5500 steps and was starving so I ordered a McDonalds breakfast and I am just waiting for it to arrive now.

    After breakfast I tried to plaster the bottom of the walls but it was too runny to fill the big holes so I bought some seam tape to cover the holes and then did the first coat of paint of the bedroom until about 6 inches above skirting height and then had to go to my parents for my Dad’s birthday lunch but went to Screwfix to pick up the tape on the way!

    When I got home I realised that I still had 2000 steps to go so I got the treadmill out and got the steps done while i was waiting for my tea to cook and then chilled for the rest of the evening.

    By the end of the day I got to 12319 steps which is not great but better than not doing them and kept my 14 day streak alive πŸ™‚

  • Weekly Summary Days 7-13

    This week has been a pretty sucessful week although I have been busy doing diy most of the week so I have consentrated of walking mainly this week but I have done way more steps most days to make up for the lack of doing anything else.

    This week I have done 109333 total steps which is an average of 15619 steps a day with a high of 20824 steps on Friday. I have also dropped my weight from 108 kgs on the Sunday to 107.5 kgs on Saturday morning so another solid 0.5 kgs dropped and again it is mostly fat being burnt judging by how my body is changing.

    The past few days I have been really tired so I have been getting up later and holding off on walking until about 9 am and doing less diy than planned but I have still easily been getting my steps in so its all good.

    Other than the walking I have also been consistantly doing the LΓΌften and my 1/2 chinups as well which is good.

    I haven’t got as much painting and decorating done as I had planned and I need to get that done today and tomorrow so that I can get my room in order. I am going to hold off on doing the flooring until after the office move so once the painting is done I will sort the bedroom out and work on the placement of the furnature then when the floor is done I will know how to optimally set up the room

    Next week will also be a bit up in the air due to the office move but I want to make sure that I get back to doing my morning routine properly again at least as I have slipped out of the habit a bit due to being busy decorating etc.

    I am taking the next week off from the bike too as I need to focus on the office move so I will hold off on sorting out my luchtime routine until February I think.

  • Day 12 – Put some weight back on!

    Weight = 107.6 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 20824

    So this morning I woke up at 4:30 without an alarm and got up and did my weigh-in and found that I am back up to 107.6 kgs which is partly due to lying in bed most of the day yesterday and partly from eating crap again yesterday with a fryup sandwhich and fried bread for breakfast and chicken nuggets and chips from the chippy in the evening.

    This has proven that I need to work on my diet so from February I will work on that once I have got my getting up and walking more automatic.

    I have now caught up with my jornals and my Training log so I am about to get in the shower then head to the office to drop off my desk legs and pick up some bits before heading back there to do some bits in the new office.

    I will then head back home via screwfix to pick up my painting kit and then I will get on with the prep work for the painting and take off the skirting to make painting easier.

    My plans for today are:

    • Drop desk legs at the office
    • Take bits from the office home
    • Fit legs to desk
    • Get rid of remaining sticky on bedroom walls from cable manangement
    • Remove Skirting in bedroom
    • Remove broken tiles from around the wall and put in bag ready to take to the tip
    • Mask off window and door frame
    • Wash last wall with sugarsoap
    • When dust sheets arrive put them over the bed and paint 1st coat of paint.
    • Wait for first coat to dry then paint second coat

    That is basically all that I have to do today πŸ™‚ so quiet day really πŸ™‚

    Between coats I have to go to the other side of town and meet up with my ex and her cousin and family for a bit as they are visiting for the day from London. Depending on how long that takes I may have to do the second coat tomorrow!

    So I have just got home from the office and its 8:30 am and I am on 10366 steps and I picked up the painting stuff from Screwfix on my way home.

    I have decided that I will do the prep today and then paint tomorrow when I have the dust sheets and more time.

    I am just doing my LΓΌften as I missed it yesterday then I will get going on the prep work until about lunch time then I will chill for the afternoon once the room is ready to paint tomorrow.

  • Day 11 – Had to go to the office

    Weight = 107.2 Kgs

    Steps Completed =15011

    So this morning I had to go into the office and fix a server even though I was on holiday so I got up at normal time as I had slept at home last night as it was snowing pretty hard at my parents house last night.

    When I got up I did my weigh-in and I was down to 107.2 kgs which is amazing! I then got showered and walked into the office and moved the server with issues and then set up my new monitors on my desk.

    I then walked home and waited for a call from the lorry with the type 1 for the track maintainance. I got the call at 10 ish so I headed to the track and sorted that out and then headed home. By the time I got home I was on over 12000 steps already.

    When I got home I was hungry so i ordered takeout for beakfast which arrived about 11:30 so I ate that and then chilled while I then waited for my desk legs to be delivered and they arrived at about 13:30. While I was waiting for the desk legs to arrive I was watching TV which I did all afternoon until about 8pm when I loaded the desk legs into the car and tried to take them to the office but one of my neighbours had parked their car in such a way that they had blocked off the road and left it like that! So I reversed back to my driveway and gave up for the day!

    Today was a bit of a waste of a day in terms of working on the house as all I got done today was getting rid of the carpet strips and got rid of some of the sticky pad residue on the wall and that was about it but I did get some well earned rest and also got my monitors set up to hit the ground running next week and also got in 15011 steps for the day in so a really good day walking wise.

    I unfortunately did not get a ruck in or do my LΓΌften but other than that it was a good day and I am feeling a lot better for taking it a bit easy.

    I spent most of the evening researching self levelling flooring as I am going to have to do this in my bedroom now as all the tiles around the edge of the room are smashed to pieces from the carpet strips being installed so I will need to self level before I can fit the flooring.

    I have decided that I will paint this week and then put the room back how its going to be without the floor and live with the tiles for a bit and then the last weekend in January I will self level the floor and then put the lino down and put the skirting boards back on again.

  • Day 10 – More disruption

    Day 10 – More disruption

    Weight = 107.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 14264

    So this morning I woke up at my parents house at 5 am, got dressed, de-iced the car and drove back to the flat. When I got to the flat I received a notification that my flooring would arrive at about 8am so I didn’t have time to go for a walk before it arrived.

    Instead I did my weight in and was surprised that I was down to 107.1 kgs this morning so I have dropped a staggering 0.8 kgs in a day πŸ™‚ I didn’t think that I was that active yesterday but I guess that I was.

    I then showered and got dressed then drank my salt water and filled in all the holes in my bedroom wall and made up some vinegar and water solution and sprayed the mould along the outside wall in the bedroom to kill it.

    The flooring arrived as promised at 8 am so I am just about to go for a ruck on the short route again before getting on with my day!

    So I was on 1400 steps before I left for my ruck and I then got another 6382 steps in while rucking 2.96 miles in 52 minutes and climbed 240 ft. According to 7727 steps at the moment so that’s about the same as Strava + the 1400 steps.

  • Day 9 – Had a lie in

    Weight = 108.1 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 14473

    So i was really tired as I had a really big day yeaterday and needed some sleep to recover a bit! I woke up just before 7am, got up did my weight-in (up 0.2 kgs to 108.1 kgs πŸ™ ) made my salt water then opened up the flat and did my LΓΌften then drank my salt water and I am now writing this post!

    I am going to wait until about 8 am to go for my ruck and then I can go up the 2 tunnels and go for a longer walk before getting home and waiting for my delivery to attive between 10 am and 2:30 pm (better than the 7-7 window I was given when I ordered the stuff!)

    Once I close up the flat I am going to continue clearing out the bedroom to get as much stuff out as possible so that I can pull out as much of the carpet as possible ready for the new flooring to arrive later in the week.

    I noticed that it had snowed again last night so I am expecting my walk to be fairly cold this morning so I will wrap up warm to make sure its OK.

    At just after 8am I jumped in the shower then got dressed, put the weight vest my coat and shoes and went out for a quick ruck. I decided I would do a short walk as I was a bit tired from yesterday so I wanted to take it a bit easier today.

    I also have a lot to do today clearing my bedroom ready to start ripping out the rest of the carpet and prepping ready to paint and then do the flooring this week so I should easily get my steps in today doing that.

    The walk was 80% on the 2 tunnels so zero traffic and super relaxing other than all the ice trying to take me out πŸ™‚ I only walked 2.35 miles in 41 minutes and climbed 177ft and checked off 5030 steps for the morning.

    I am currently 5852 steps so almost 1/2 way to the 12000 steps already.

    As my flat is a mess while the bedroom is out of commission I have decided to give backwards walking a miss this week as the backwards treadmill is currently in the kitchen surrounded by stuff so I can’t use it at the moment! If my knees start giving me issues then I will do some backwards walking outside while I am on my walks until the flat is sorted but the knees are feeling good at the moment so fingers crossed they stay that way!

    After a couple of hours of removing stuff from my bedroom and pulling up carpets I am now at 9016 steps and its only 11:08 so I am pretty confident that I will get to 12000 steps easily today πŸ™‚ I have taken a break to make breakfast then I will empty everything from my bed and break it down and store it in the kitchen out of the way. I am going to have to sleep at my parents house this week as my bed will be in pieces in the lounge for the rest of the week!

    This means that my morning ruck will have to be around 6am as it will take me 30-45 minutes to get home in the morning after getting up at 5am but I will be ready to start work my 8ish in the mornings so it should be good πŸ™‚

    I have just recieved a notification that my flooring will be delivered tomorrow which is good news as it can be in the flat acclimatising while I paint the bedroom and then I can crack strainght on with the flooring hopefully by Thursday or Friday so the room can get rebuilt by the weekend.

    I had a really busy day yesterday moving furniture and all of my stuff out of my bedroom and removing the carpet and underlay ready to paint and put down new flooring this week so I managed to walk 14473 steps yesterday even though I had only done a short ruck in the morning so all is good.

  • Day 8 – Busy Day

    Weight = 107.9 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 18713

    I woke up with my alarm at 5:00 and got up and made my salt water then went to the bathroom and did my weigh-in and I have dropped another 0.1 kgs so I have dropped 1/2 kg in a week since I started my morning walking challenge which is a really good start!

    I then got dressed and went for my walk without the weight vest today as this morning was my rest day! It was really wet but the walk was so much easier without the weight vest and I was amazed how much easier it was to be honest!

    I was over 3 minutes faster this morning and I was trying to walk slower as it was my rest day!

    When I got home I decided to not do my LΓΌften as it was so wet and instead had a shower and rode into the office and worked until 12:00 when I headed home. I was amazed to see that I was on over 17000 steps already after walking a bunch at work so today wasn’t really a rest day to be honest!

  • Week 1 Weekly Summary – Days 1-6

    Week 1 Weekly Summary – Days 1-6

    Just like that I have finished the first week of my Walking when I wake up and 12000 steps as day challenge. It has now changed to Ruck every day except Monday morning now too πŸ™‚ Only 51 weeks to go until the challenge ends πŸ™‚

    This week has been really sucessful both walking wise and organising my flat and building better cleaning habits and building my Morning and evening routines to make be use my time more effectivly to improve my life!

    As you can see from the photo of my fridge step tracker I have eaisly got my 12000 steps in every day! This has taken little to no effort due to consistantly walking at least 6000 steps in the morning as soon as I wake up. Because of the morning walking I averaged 13724 steps this week so 1724 steps above my 12000 step goal πŸ™‚

    I was not able to Ruck on Monday and Tuesday due to knee issues but I have rucked every day since then and that plus the 10 minutes backwards walking Monday to Friday has really helped my legs feel really stong and pain free which is amazing!

    I have also found that walking first thing has made me feel way happier and so much less stressed that I didn’t get anywhere near losing my shit Thursday and Friday even though both days were made way more stessful due to outside issues which before my holiday and starting walking would have lead to me losing my shit and being in a bad mood for the rest of the day didn’t even affect me at all πŸ™‚

    I have also noticed that I am much more active when I walk first thing and don’t just feel like going to bed and watching TV as soon as I finish work. I have also found that I am not as interested in watching TV so I stop after an hour or so and do something else like backwards walking or cleaning! This has meant that getting my 10 minutes backwards walking and 30 minutes cleaning before bed has been super easy to so and some days I have done an hour or more of cleaning by choice which is unheard of πŸ™‚

    All the extra cleaning and the LΓΌften (basically opening all the doors and windows for 10 minutes to air the flat out) have meant that the flat is a much more pleasnt environement to live in and the amount of mould is dropping all the time!

    I’m not sure if its the flat being cleaner and having less mould and stale air in it or all the walking but an unexpected affect is that my asthma is so much better this week πŸ™‚ I am also way more house proud and this had lead to me finally buying some vinyl flooring for my bedroom to replace the horrible carpet that has annoyed me for 5 years and never looks clean no matter how much you hoover it πŸ™ I have also bought a bunch of stuff to finally paint the bedroom while I am updating the flooring it made sense so I will have a super clean and clutter free bedroom by this time next week hopefully!

    We also got around to cleaning out the shed and taking a 1 ton bag full of crap to the tip yeaterday πŸ™‚ I now have a semi usable shed although some more clearing out is needed but I have space to get a bunch more stuff from the flat into the shed.

    I started the challenge at 108.4 kgs and I am 108.0 kgs today so that in its self is healthy weight loss for a week for very little effort other than getting out of bed and walking instead of pissing my time away on my phone! I have also noticed that although my weight hasn’t significantly over the past week my face, stomach and chest have become way more toned and my trousers are feeling much loser and sagging more than before so all good signs that I am burning fat! My t-shirst are also feeling way baggier than this time last week too πŸ™‚

    Another thing I have done is take facebook off of my phone which means that I have not really wanted to be on my phone anywhere as much which has also made me more motivated to do other more positive things!

    All in all its been a really productive week and I am looking forwards to seeing how doing this consistantly helps to improve my life further.

  • Day 7 – Changed up plan

    Weight = 108.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 15526

    So this morning I woke up an hour and 15 minutes after my alarm and had somehow turned off my alarm without knowing how! I then got up and made my salt water and then did my weigh-in and I was surprised that I had dropped from 108.3 kgs to 108.0 kgs today so my weight is steadily dropping which is good. More importantly when I undressed to go in the shower I noticed that my chest and especially my stomach is getting much thinner πŸ™‚ My stomach shelf has almost gone now which is a really good sign that I am dropping a lot of body fat even if I havent lost a lot of weight!

    While in the shower I was thinking about the way that I am training and I I decided that I will take Monday as my only day that I don’t wear the weight vest so it will essentially be my rest day instead of Sunday as planned. My thinking behind this is that I have loads of free time at the weekend so I can do longer rucks than I can during the week so it means I can get well over 10000 step rucks in at the weekend when I only have time during the week to do the 6000 or so uphill short route before I have to start work.

    The late start was actually a good thing as it was light by the time I got to the 2 tunnels so I could walk down there traffic free home so it was super piecefull and way more relaxing than walking on the pavement near the road! Even when there is no traffic you have to be vigilant but on the 2 tunnels I can fully switch off which is nice πŸ™‚

    As you can see I walked for 1 hour 26 minutes got 10224 steps done and walked 4.42 miles and climbed almost 500 ft. All while wearing a 10kg weight vest πŸ™‚

    The snow had almost gone until I got halfway up the hill and it got increasingly heavier as I got to the top but it was pretty good until I started to decend towards the 2 tunnels and the pavement was really slippy so I walked in the road and it was fine. Again about 1/2 way down the hill the snow had pretty much all melted so I went back on the pavement again!

    When I got home I opened all the windows and doors for 10 minutes of LΓΌften which has helped a lot to make the flar feel way more airy and fresh and also way less damp. It has also made the flat warmer and heat up easier too so its definately a reallly positive gain for very little energy expenditure so I will keep doing it!

    I am now on Amazon ordering a year wall planner so that I can track my main goal of walking first thing and doing 12000 steps a day to make me more accountable and make it harder to not do it every morning.

    I am still going to use the fridge calendar too to track my monthly progress as I like the fact that I see it all the time so it keeps me motivated throughout the day which I think is helping to keep me more active πŸ™‚

    This way I will see the yearly progress in the bedroom next to my daily habit check board that I tick off my habits every time I complete them. I also have 2 new whiteboards to track weight lost since the start of my walking streak and also the number of days I have been walking to try and add extra motivation.

    This afternoon I need to make stickers for all the boards to update them with permanent category names etc.

    I am going to move the weight off of the daily tick board onto the weight board and split the board in half so it has today’s weight and weight lost since start of year at the bottom.

    The days consecutively walked will have its own board.

    The year planner arrives on Wednesday so it xan be my birthday present from my son πŸ™‚

  • Day 6 – Long Ruck done

    Weight = 108.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 15526

    This morning my alarm went off and I struggled a bit to get out of bed but I talked myself into it and got up and made my salt water and then did my weigh-in (down 0.5 kgs this morning to 108.3 kgs). I noticed that my chest and stomach are getting less chubby so all the rucking is helping burn the fat.

    I have also noticed that getting up and walking first thing seems to lead to me being more relaxed and more active for the rest of the day. I also noticed yesterday that stress from work triggers my craving for sugary foods! Yesterday was stressful and I noticed that I was craving sugary sweets and choclate really badly when I hadn’t been all week! I did eventually cave and buy a bunch of crap which lead to having takeout last night too πŸ™

    This means to make it easier to not eat badly or eat takeout is to reduce my stress at work! This means that I need to learn to say I am too busy and only do one or 2 tasks at a time instead of juggling multiple tasks at the same time and getting that feeling of being pulled in all directions at the same time and getting nowhere! Another bad habbit to work on in the future!

    After my shower I got dressed, drank my salt water, put on my weigh-vest, coat, beanie, gloves and shoes and left the house on my morning ruck. I went a way longer route today which was nice for a change and it means that I walked 10565 steps in one walk so about 4000 steps or more further than my normal loop. Weirdly enought the hardest part of the walk was still the hill at the end of my road which is always a shock to the system πŸ™‚

    It was nice to walk a different route as I get to walk in places with a better view than my normal route during the week and its definately nice to change things up.

    When I got home I did my LΓΌften which was made easier by me adding another velcro patch to make it easier to open my bedroom blind open to allow for better airflow πŸ™‚ While I was waiting the 10 minutes for the house to air out I started writing this post and I am now in bed updating it while chilling for a bit before waking up my son ready to get the car loaded ready for the tip at 9 am.

    We got to the tip and unloaded all the stuff with no issues and I was home again by 9:30 and I had completed my 12000 steps for the day already!

    When I got home I bought some flooring and stuff to fit the flooring so that I can use my week off next week to sort out my bedroom as its been annoying me for so long that its about time I sorted it! I went for the cheapest option which is vinyl roll flooring but as long as its dry and easy to clean I will be happy πŸ™‚ I have been wanting to move my room around for a while too so this gives me an excuse to do that!

    While I am changing the flooring I will also paint the bedroom to make it easier to do without making a mess. I will start clearing things out of my bedroom and pull the carpet up today after I sort out my desk as its really annoying me and I need to clean up the lounge to make room for the stuff from the bedroom.

    Tomorrow I will try and organise the garage a bit so that I can fit my bike rack and bikes from the lounge into it and hopefully the sofa too and my vinyl cutter to get that out of the way too! I will then move my rollers and bike parts bins into the shed to free up space in the front hall and then start moving the cupboards and other stuff out of the bedroom into the lunge. I am not sure how I will get my bed out yet.

    By the end of the day I had completed 15526 steps for the day and i also did a cleaning hour not cleaning 1/2 hour and organised the area under my desk and put a shelving unit in the dead space between the wall and my desk where the aquariums stop the desk fitting against the wall. I have now organised the virgin router, a switch and my Proxmox cluster servers that I only have one installed at the moment. I have ordered some velcro cable ties to allow me to organise everything properly to make that area clutter free.
