  • Day 30 – Feeling crappy and off sick today

    Weight = 107.2 Kgs

    Steps Completed =13968

    So last night I started feeling really crappy so I didn’t do much other than cleaning the flat after work as I felt bad so this mornings weigh-in was bad too at 107.2 kgs πŸ™

    I really need to get my eating in check because although I am physically feeling loads better (other than the illness that is!) and definitely getting fitter my weight has not dropped significantly over the past couple weeks! In fact after 30 days I am only 1.2 kgs lighter than I was at the start of the challenge when at my lightest over the 30 days I was 105.8 kgs which meant that I lost 2.6 kgs at that time!

    Since I was doing the move my McDonlads breakfasts and fried breakfasts and takeaways have crept back into my daily diet culminating in yesterday having a fryup sandwhich with extra bacon and egg + Fried Bread! then a Burger king for tea and then some biscuits and some squirty cream for pudding! No wonder I’m so heavy at the moment!

    Going forwards I am going back to just eating what I have in the house + meat and eggs which basically equates to steak and eggs for breakfast and pasta and tinned chicken soup for tea and that’s it! The pasta and tinned soup should last a couple of weeks than I can go on to a full carnivore diet of meat and eggs only!

    I am also going to raise my step count per day to 15000 steps during the week and keep to 12000 at the weekends as that will force me to walk after work as well as before work to get the 150000 steps in every day so I can start working on my evening routine as I have not done that at all!

    I have just had a beef joint, a bunch of steak and some bacon delivered so I can start the week with bacon and eggs for breakfast and then move to steak and eggs towards the weekend then Friday afternoon I will go to the shops with my son and get some food for the weekend then re-order for me next week from there!

    I hope that sorting my diet and walking more should get my weight back down pretty quickly as it did last time!

    Last night I bought a pair of 29 x 1.4 slick tyres to make my MTB more like a gravel bike and once they come and have been installed I will start riding to the office on it and also to the track at lunch times too and then my weight should really start to drop! I am going to hold off until March to start sprints and track stuff as every time I ride the BMX I hurt my knee still so I will give it a month to let the backwards walking do its thing and drop a bunch of weight before adding BMX to the mix other than weekends.

    I also bought a new wheel holder for my bike carrier as the one on the drivers side fell off on Friday lunch time!

    I am giving up for today and going back to bed for a bit then when I wake up I will shower and walk up to the BMX track to drop off some forks that I have sold and hopefully get my steps in so I can lounge in bed for the rest of the day!

    I have just managed to get to 11000 steps for the day on the treadmill but it was a struggle to do and I had to stop at 11000 steps as the treadmill started to overheat which is not ideal.

    I am going to do my 10 minutes of backwards walking now to see if I can get over 12000 steps that way!

    So I managed to get through the 10 minutes of Backwards Treadmill but it was a real struggle and I was sweating my tits off once I was done which normally I am not but its done and I can now have a shower and then I can pop into the office and do some bits before heading home to bed!

    I have just received the new inner tubes for the new tyres and I have now received a delivery message from DHL that the tyres will be delivered tomorrow so they will most likely be here Thursday or Friday!

    I have decided to rest a bit this week so no Rucking or riding to the track this week to make sure that I am fully better before I start ramping up the training.

    This week I will focus on walking first thing and getting the 10 minutes of backwards treadmill every day until I feel better.

    I think I will still keep riding the ebike to the office for now and then I will come home at lunch time and get changed then ride to the track and back on the mtb/ gravel bike to see how it goes. I am expecting to be blowing out of my arse to start with but I am hoping that by March I should be used to it and it should be a fair bit easier then I can start using it as a warm up and then ride the BMX for an hour or so before riding home again!

  • Day 29 – Back to walking first thing!

    Weight = 106.5 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12217

    So this morning I woke up about 5 minutes before my alarm at 4:55 and then waited for the alarm to go off before getting up, making my salt water and then doing my weigh-in and i am up another 0.2 kgs to 106.5 kgs this morning. I then showered and got dressed and headed out for my morning walk as planned even though the weather was really windy and wet!

    The walk wasn’t too bad apart from the weather being so horrible and it was made less bad as I was listening to my new audio book by Jordan B Peterson called 12 Rules for Life which was interesting and I was not aware just how Funny Jordan is! I’m not sure that he is intentionally funny but I laughed at a lot of the things that he said πŸ™‚

    When I got back I changed out of my wet clothes and put them straight into the washing machine and then got dresses and went into work on the ebike.

    I then worked until 12:00 before going home and going to bed for my lunch break again after eating a bit!

    I am amazed at how much better I felt after walking first thing again and I really need to keep at it because it makes me so much calmer and happier and things that would usually wind me up just didn’t matter this morning!

    My aches and pains have also gone away too so its a definite priority to walk first thing every morning! I am going to try and Ruck with the weight vest on tomorrow morning to see how I feel doing that as well.

    By the time I got home I was on 11351 steps for the day so it should be relatively easy to get to 12000 steps by the end of the day as I have to hoover and mop through the house this evening!

  • Day 28 – Need to re-focus

    Weight = 106.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12120

    This moring I woke up without an alarm and got up and did my weigh in about 5:45 am and I was down to 106.3 kgs again which is not surprising as I had to do a massive walk yesterday after getting back from the track as I had only done about 2500 steps all day by that point.

    As last week was really lackluster an I prioritised going to the office over walking first thing I am going to make some changes to my daily schedule and along with prioritising getting up at 5 am and walking first thing I am going to also finish work at 4 pm and go for a walk as well. The evening walk is to get me more active in the evenings as at the moment I am not doing much at all in the evening which is not ideal! The walk should also server to get my mind off of work and re-focus to getting back to doing the things that I want to do instead of being wiped out and only having the energy to watch TV! which is what I have been doing recently!

    This week I also plan to start riding the mtb to the track at lunch times to get me fit enough to ride there and then train on the BMX from March or April time and use the ride up as a warm-up and the ride home a cool down.

    This morning I bought some Wellington boots from Screw Fix and will pick them up on the way to my parents house when my son is practicing his driving.

    We will then take the dog for a long walk around the village hence the need for Wellington boots πŸ™‚

    This walk should get me most of the way to my 12000 steps and I can chill for the rest of the day πŸ™‚

    This week my focus will be getting all of my bikes up together and photographed and put on the internet to sell as I need to start getting rid of them so that I can free up my flat and make it as bike free as possible going forwards. I made a start getting the some of the stuff out of the hall cupboard yesterday and have already sold a set of forks that I don;t need any more so I now need to get the rest of the stuff out of there and start selling them or binning them!

    The cupboard is pretty much full of things that I may need at some point but don’t need at the moment so I am going to get rid and if I need it I will buy it again! Once the cupboard is cleared out I can then move my BMX spare parts boxes and rollers out of the coat cupboard and get that cleared out as well!

    Once that is done I need to make a start on the garage as its a nightmare at the moment and I need to clear space to get the bike rack into it so that the bikes can go on into the garage and be easily grabbed when needed!

  • Weekly Review – Week 4 (19th to 25th January)

    On paper this week has been a sucessful week however I only got up and walked first thing once this week and I was pretty lazy all week as I have been recovering from the office move but I think that I am pretty much back to normal now so I need to start focusing on my routines again to get my life moving in the right direction again and avoid reverting to my old habits and getting fatter again,

    Steps wise I managed to walk 89098 steps this week for an average of 12728 steps which is well over my 12000 steps goal but I had 3 evenings where I got my steps in on the treadmill which is ideal and it meant that I put on weight at the end of the week. I noticed that my diet got steadily worse again this week too as I felt less motivated and lasier as the week went on!

    My weight this week went from 105.9 kgs on Sunday to 106.7 kgs on Saturday morning so I put on 0.8 kgs this week which is not ideal.

    I didn’t manage one Ruck this week either which is not ideal either although my flat is looking a lot better than it did last week so I did get some forwards momentum!

    This week I need to focus on getting up and rucking first thing and at lunch time I will start to ride to the track every day so that I can start getting into the habit of doing that so that when I start doing sprints in March or April I will be in a place where I am using the ride to the track as a warmup for my BMX riding and not as a workout as it will be for now! I left a bike at the track on Friday so I will now have to leave a helmet and gloves there as well and then I will be able to at least get a bit of riding in when I get to the track even if its just a few pump laps before going home! Again this is just to get into the habit of getting home, eating then getting on the bike and riding to the track every day instead of going to bed and watching netflix and snoozing.

    I have decided to also go for an hours walk as soon as I finish work at 4pm Monday – Friday to try and make my day more rounded instead of walking first thing then being basically sedentary for large parts of the day after that. At least if I walk in the evening as well I can switch off from work and be active in the morning and evening too. It should also be a good way to reduce the aches and pains that I feel after work and also a way to blow away the tiredness of the day so that I can have the energy to do my cleaning etc in the evenings.

    I am hoping that this extra activity will get me back on track with my weight loss and also mean that I am easily getting at least 15000 steps a day in during the week moving forwards but ideally getting over 20000 steps a day in as the weight was falling off when I was doing over 20000 steps a day during the move!

  • Day 24 – Back to the morning routine!

    Weight = 105.8 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12619

    So this morning I struggled to get up but I dragged myself out of bed by 5:15 and got my salt water done and then went and did my weigh-in and I was surprised that I was back down to 105.8 kgs as I didn’t eat very well again yesterday so I was expecting to have put on weight not lost it! I guess that highlights that walking outside is better than walking on the treadmill for losing weight which I guess makes sense as the tradmill does a lot of the work for you!

    I then drank my salt water and then got dressed and went for my walk:

    I didn’t put the weight vest on this morning as I still have sore ankles and left knee from all the exertion during the move so the uphill bit was pretty easy to be honest and the walk was really enjoyable. By the time that I got home I was on 6227 steps so over 1/2 way to my 12000 step target for the day!

    When I got home I opened all the doors and windows and did my 10 minutes LΓΌften then turned the laptop on and started work.

    I am heading to my parents house at lunch time then its easier for me to get to my friends house to go to Andover gates this evening. I plan to shower and get into my BMX kit at about 11:30 then load the bike and head to the folks when I’m dressed.

  • Day 23 – Still hurting

    Weight = 106.3 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12608

    So I woke up with my alarm at 05:00 feeling really tired and my ankles were sore as but I fored myself out of bed then I went to the kitchen and made my salt water and then did my weigh in and as expected I was back up to 106.3 kgs (+0.5 kgs) this morning. I figured that I would be havier today as I ate really badly as I was stressed today and I didn’t sleep well either!

    I then powered on the PC and did some work before going in the shower and then opened all the doors and windows to do my 10 minutes of LΓΌften before I walk into the office to get some steps in before work!

    I worked until about 11:30 then went to the bank and then walked home. By the time I got home I was already on 12000 steps so I made some food and then went to bed and woke up about 5pm feeling way more refreshed but a bit annoyed as I had wasted my afternoon off again!

    I then did a bit of tidying then watced TV on my laptop until about 21:30 then did the washing up and tidied through the flat then went to bed.

    By the end of the day I was on 12608 steps for the day.

  • Day 22 – Tired but feeling good

    Weight = 105.8 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12322

    So this morning I woke up with my alarm at 5 am feeling tired but i talked myself out of going back to sleep for a couple of hours and got up, made my salt water and did my weigh-in. I was surprised that I am now down to 105.8 kgs so I have dropped 2.6 kgs so far this year πŸ™‚

    More importantly my son and myself put my flat back together after me messing with my bedroom so I can now walk around the flat without having to dodge things and step over things which is amazing! I will have to give it a good clean tonight but it feels better already!

    More importantly I now have my backwards treadmill back in my bedroom and it has enough space to use it so I will start again today as my knee has given way a few times over the past week due to me not being able to use the treadmill for the past 16 days!

    I am resting a bit today and then tomorrow morning I will get up at 5 and go for a ruck to get back to my morning routine ASAP.

    I have decided to up my daily step goal to 15000 steps and actively leave the flat straight after I finish work and walk again to blow away all the stress from the day away and get me motivated to start doing things in the evening too!

    This week my focus will be on getting the higher step count done, also to start getting the flat clean, tidy and under control and also start to ride on the rollers in the even too. I also want to start getting back into the habit of riding the BMX again although I think all of my bikes are at my parents house so that may have to wait until I have been there to grab the bikes!

    I am also really liking the bike free flat so I am going to get all the bikes that I possibly can sold ASAP so my focus in the evening will be breaking down the bikes and selling off the parts as quickly as possible.

    At about 18:30 I was still on 10500 steps so I got the treadmill out and got to 12000 steps then stopped as I was totally done! I finished the day on 12322 Steps

  • Week 3 Round up

    So this week has been really hecktic as its the office move this weekend so I was supoer active from Thursday until Sunday moving servers and re-racking them again! I was also working late and starting early so I’m feeling tired but happy that its almost over!

    Due to the extra workload I wasn’t going for a walk first thing as I was going straight to the office when I got up at 5 am but I was basically walking all day instead of mainly in the morning which shows as I walked 106695 steps this week and averaged 15242 steps a day.

    More surprisingly I lost exactly 1kg this week! That’s pretty impressive that I lost a bag of sugar just by being more active this week!

    The not so good points this week were that I didn’t ruck once this week and my daily routine was really out the window due to the focus on the office move. I did get my steps every day but I didn’t get the benfits of the morning walk. I also didn’t do the LΓΌften every day so the flat doesn’t feel so good and I was spazmodic at best with the cleaning so the flat is really messy too!

    Next weeks focus is to get back into my normal routine and get the flat back to a liveable state!

    All in all the week went well and the office move was successful and I have dropped weight so all good πŸ™‚

  • Day 17 – feeling the effects of bad diet yesterday

    Weight = 107.5 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 12086

    So after getting down to 107 kgs yesterday I relaxed on my diet and wasn’t surprised to see that I have put 0.5 kgs on over night! I got ready and went for my walk but I had to turn back as the crap food from yesterday has upset my stomach and I was going to have an accident if I carried on!

    i got home just in time and I think that I have lost the extra 0.5 kgs or more 😁

    i am now going to get ready and head to work as I have a bunch of servers to move this morning so I may as well crack on.

    I am only on 1300 steps but I think I should be fine to get my steps in this morning as I will be doing a bunch of walking while moving the servers.

    This shows that the extra stress from work on top of the stress from a really messy unorganised flat mean that I slip back into my old crappy eating habits and kill my weight loss!

    My new heater arrives today so once that arrives I will stick it near the outside wall in my room and leave it on all night. Hopefully by tomorrow then wall will have warmed up and dried the paint properly so that I can do the second coat of paint in the room and then put the furniture back until I can get the floor sorted. I am thinking that I will leave the floor until the weather heats up a bit as the cold has really messed up the painting so I don’t want to mess up the floor too!

    i need to sort the flat a bit as the furniture being all over the place really messes with everything and even makes my Luften up as I can’t get to the front door or a lot of the windows so I am only partially doing it at the moment πŸ˜”

    By the time I got home from work around 12:00 I was only on 8000 steps so when I went to the post box aat 13:00 I went the really long way home along the 2 tunnels and when I got home I was on 11500 steps and my heater was 10 minutes away so perfect timing and I have set myself up to make 12000 steps easily without trying again today.

    Once the heater arrives I will set it up then start moving stuff back into my bedroom as I am not going to have time to paint before the weekend as its office move time so I will have to make do until its dryer next week.

    This morning I bought some straps for my roof bars so that I can get some battens tomorrow and I also bought some more temporary blackout blinds to use in the lounge and kitchen as well as replacing the current one in the bedroom as its covered in paint now πŸ™

    The heater has arrived and it is now running and heating up the wall and window on the outside of the room so hopefully this will dry the wall out ready to paint next weekend.

    I am amazed at how walking at lunch time has really woken me up as I was starting to get sleepy before I walked and I am now wide awake again πŸ™‚

  • Day 15 – Back to work

    Weight = 107.2 Kgs

    Steps Completed = 15419

    So this morning I woke up at 5 with my alarm, went and made my salt water and then did my weigh-in and i had dropped another 0.1kgs to 107.2 kgs so moving in the right direction slowly. I then showered and got dressed and walked up the hill and did my usual loop and I was surprised just how easily I got up the hill and I didn’t even need my inhaler which was lucky as I left it at home anyway.

    When I got home I did some work then packed my bag and rode the ebike into the office! The battery was super low so it was a bit of a slow ride but it was good to get my legs spinning again anyway πŸ™‚

    I then worked did some bits then built my standing desk and setup my PC and 4 monitors properly and tidied all of the cables so its all looking amazing and is so much better to use now πŸ™‚

    I worked until 13:30 then headed home and made some food as I hadn’t eaten all morning! The ride home was way easier and faster as I had charged the battery fully at work which made the bike so much faster πŸ™‚

    After eating I went to bed for a nap and woke up at 16:00 and got up and got ready for my on call tonight!

    By the time I got home I was already on 15154 steps so going into the office makes it really easy to get my steps in so its a good call to work in the office in the mornings πŸ™‚

    For the past week or so I have been losing about 0.1kgs a day so I I can keep that up for 1 year I would weigh 71.9 kgs which would be close to my weight when I was in my prime playing basketball 2-3 times a day which would be amazing.

    Getting back to my morning routine felt really good this morning and I was back to feeling chilled out and happy so I really need to keep this routine up.

    At 17:00 I had to put my fitbit to charge as its battery was super low so I may not have counted all of my steps today but I have way over 12000 steps already so not a real big issue if I don’t count some.

    Today was also my first spend free day of the year so I will try and string a run of spend free days together too so that I can start to save money. I have a lot of pasta and soup and a bunch of stuff in the fridge to eat and 24 eggs so that should keep me going for the rest of the week at least πŸ™‚
